FAST FOOD JUST GOT A LOT FASTER
GEELONG’S fast food scene is about to get a whole lot faster, with an online takeaway delivery app coming to town.
People will be able to have meals delivered from top local restaurants to their homes or offices, with UK food delivery app Deliveroo launching officially in Geelong today.
Dishes from the Hot Chicken Project, Pizza Bar, Uncle Donut, Mexican Republic, Golden Dragon Yumcha, Burger Inc and Zambrero are all on the menu, with about 24 eateries on board so far and more being added each week.
The delivery range includes addresses within the CBD, Geelong West, Newtown, Manifold Heights, South Geelong and East Geelong. Deliv- eries operate in a 30-minute time frame.
Hot Chicken Project boss Benjamin Bocock said it would cater perfectly to corporate clientele who recently moved to the CBD.
“People are workaholics and sometimes eat at their desk,” he said. “It’s that whole Yellow Pages saying that your fingers do the walking. It’s a really tech-savvy world today.”
A number of participating restaurants have been using the app for the past week after a soft launch on Wednesday, and Mr Bocock said the feedback had been great so far.
“We’ve just jumped on board, it really suits the style of business we’re in this day and age of dining,” he said.
“I think it’s great for Geelong, bringing Deliveroo which is the first of its kind here, and it just shows the city has got good growth and really supports the hospitality sector.”
Deliveroo Country Manager, Levi Aron, said they were excited to launch in a regional centre, and chose restaurants with a diverse offering that didn’t already deliver.
“It’s something we’ve been thinking about probably for a number of months now,” he said.
