I SAW BODY ON FLOOR

A quiet night ... then neighbour yelled ‘she’s been stabbed’

- CHAD VAN ESTROP

A NEIGHBOUR who alerted police to a Corio murder believes the 44-year-old victim was at the crime scene for hours prior to her death.

Wayne Allardyce, who lives metres from the Matthews Rd murder scene, said he saw his neighbour Debbie, her sister Sandra and the murder victim were inside Debbie’s unit at the time of the incident.

“I came home from Frankston (on Friday) at 6pm and didn’t see anyone coming into the house until I called the police,” Mr Allardyce said.

As the murder investigation enters its sixth day, police have released little detail of the incident but have revealed the victim was a 44-year-old Waurn Ponds woman.

Mr Allardyce said he called emergency services on Friday night after hearing shouts from a female.

“I heard a female’s voice yelling out ‘she’s been stabbed’ at 10.10pm and called police.”

Mr Allardyce said police and ambulance arrived about six minutes later.

“I went to the door (of the neighbouring unit) and saw a woman’s body lying on the floor.

“I saw a little bit of blood on the carpet next to the woman’s body. She didn’t look like she was alive when paramedics were working on her. They had monitors hooked up to her body.”

Mr Allardyce said the victim had a slender build, strawberry-blonde hair and was about 165cm tall.

He said Debbie had been a long-time tenant of the Matthews Rd unit with her son.

When the Geelong Adver- tiser visited the scene yesterday an empty evidence bag was still on the concrete outside the murder scene.

A police statement released on Monday said the murder was believed to be a targeted attack.

“A number of people at the property have been spoken to and at this stage police believe this is likely to be a targeted incident,” the statement said.

“The investigation into (the woman’s) death is ongoing and police encourage anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.”

It is not clear if the woman was lured to the Matthews Rd property, one of five units on the block, or if she knew her attacker.

Paramedics were sent to the unit after reports that a woman was in cardiac arrest and not breathing.

State Emergency Service volunteers spent much of Saturday combing through a neighbouring vacant block in search of clues.

The police homicide squad could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
