Star duo back from camp to tackle Cobras

THE Lady Supercats’ pursuit of top spot will come to a crossroad on Sunday when they host ladder-leader Kilsyth at The Arena.

The Cobras have dropped just two games this season and boast a two-game buffer on the Lady Supercats, who slipped back with a win and a loss from their double-header trip to Tasmania last weekend.

But the side will be bolstered by the return of Sara Blicavs and Alex Bunton from their Australian Opals camp.

Ebony Rolph, who has cocaptained the side in the absence of Blicavs and Alex Duck, said the pair would be a welcomed return for the crunch match.

“Kilsyth are on top and two games ahead of us so we really need to win that game if we want to secure top spot,” she said.

“I think we’ve already secured a final so definitely that top spot is one we want to get so this game on the weekend is going to be a tough one.

“We’ve got the better teams coming up in the next few weeks so we’ll train hard this week with the girls coming back and try to iron out the kinks I guess, and after those games we’ll get an idea of where we sit in the top half of the ladder.”

Rolph said her side’s second tier players had benefited from the extra opportunities over the last fortnight, which would hold the side in good stead come finals.

“We’ve had to all step up and contribute in different areas — rebounds, communication is probably a big thing as well, and obviously points.

“In a way, it was good the two girls were gone for these two weeks, so we could really get minutes into people like Eve Braslis, who came out and hit 24 points in 30 minutes.

Rolph, who shared the captaincy duties with Isa Brancatisano, said the chance to lead the side had also benefited her own development.
