TWIN PEAKS

Geelong Amateur twin brothers Blake and Austin Sutterby will be looking for just their second win together at Queens Park in three years when Ammos host Torquay in a blockbuster stand-alone BFL match on Saturday.

WHILE Geelong Amateur might not be having an identical season to last, Ammos’ campaign is on an upward tilt.

But the triple reigning premier’s title defence will reach a defining moment on Saturday when it hosts Torquay in the feature standalone match of the weekend.

Midfielder Blake Sutterby’s form has reflected that of his side’s, improving as the season has deepened.

Sutterby has featured in his side’s best players for the past four weeks as the Ammos have hit their straps, finding a groove that will ensure a captivating game against the topof-the-table Tigers.

“I think as the boys have started playing together, we’re getting continuity as a group,” he said.

“We just took a few games to get going, but coming home with these home games I think we can do some damage in this latter part of the season.”

Sutterby’s role has changed, with the contested ballplayer encouraged to use his wheels and provide outside run, sparking an improved output.

“I’ve just been focusing on getting outside of the stoppage a bit more; Jarrod (Young) and Rowan (McSparron) put it on me to continue to work,” he said.

“They know I can do inside and get that ball, but just to work on my outside game and get my workrate up around the ball. It’s been good, but we know there’s a big job this week.”

Twin brother Austin has been alongside his partner in crime three times this season, overcoming knee tendinitis while finding his feet after two seasons out of the game.

The pair grew up playing all their footy together, first at Newtown & Chilwell and now at Ammos, but last weekend’s win over Queenscliff was their first together at Queens Park in three years.

Austin said his side had geared up for a bumper clash against the BFL ladder leader.

“This is a huge game; obviously they’re on top and the team to beat,” he said.

“We’re playing at home — it’s the second game at home — so it’s a big game for us.

“Hopefully we can play as a team, play well and beat the top team.

“I think we’re finding form now running into the back half of the season. Obviously we dropped some games early but I think the most important part is how we’re playing now.”

Blake said the game would be won or lost in a mouthwatering midfield battle.

“Last time it was a very contested game, very hot, and it’s going to be who can get their hands on the ball first,” he said.

“I think both teams pride themselves on the midfield, so that’ll be the driving force.

“The clubrooms have only been open a week so it’ll be great for the club to get a lot of Geelong down to have a look — two good teams in good form, so it’s going to be a good match.”

THE teams will be playing for the Bethany Cup, an initiative between Bethany Community Support, Geelong Umpires and the two clubs.
