Membrey suspension sours Saints win

ST Kilda’s Tim Membrey, Collingwood’s Levi Greenwood and Western Bulldogs defender Easton Wood have been offered AFL suspensions.

But Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin and Adelaide captain Taylor Walker are both set to escape with fines after the AFL match review panel handed down its findings for Round 16 yesterday.

The MRP offered Membrey a two-game ban for striking Dylan Grimes in the Saints’ win over Richmond on Saturday night.

Grimes sat out the second half after Membrey collected him with an elbow to the head in a second-quarter marking contest.

The incident was deemed careless conduct with high impact to the head.

Greenwood can accept a one-game ban for rough con- duct on Zach Merrett in Collingwood’s loss to Essendon.

The Magpies midfielder floored Merrett with an elbow to the jaw behind the play in the third quarter, with the incident classed as careless conduct and medium impact.

The star youngster briefly went to the Essendon rooms but returned to finish with 25 disposals and two goals.

The Bulldogs’ premiership skipper, Wood, can also accept a one-game ban for striking Adelaide’s Mitch McGovern.

The incident was classed as low-impact, but Wood nonetheless faces suspension because it was his third striking offence for the season.

Cotchin has been offered a $1500 fine for striking St Kilda’s Jack Lonie to the midriff — his second striking charge for the season.

Crows spearhead Walker can cop a $1000 fine for misconduct against Western Bull- dogs defender Jason Johannisen in Friday night’s clash at Adelaide Oval.

Johannisen was sent flying into the goalpost after a heavy bump from Walker, who later said he had merely been trying to shepherd the ball over the goal line.

Hawthorn’s Luke Hodge, North Melbourne’s Robbie Tarrant and West Coast’s Drew Petrie can also accept fines for low-level offences.
