Rattled Tigers to regroup
TORQUAY can expect a big night on the training track this week after its 35-point loss to Geelong Amateur.
The Tigers take on Anglesea at Alcoa Oval on Saturday in what is a must-win match for the Roos if they are to be a presence in finals this year.
It sets up a mouth-watering contest, with Torquay coach Dom Gleeson conceding there are likely to be a few personnel changes from the side that fell to Ammos.
That result was a disappointing blow to the Tigers, but Gleeson said while his side may have been due for a reality check it had definitely not got ahead of itself.
“It’s always good to be brought back to reality, but we haven’t been playing like rock stars,” Gleeson said.
“We’ve been improving every week and what I do know is that this group will respond pretty well.
“We’ve got another team in Anglesea this week, coming off the bye, and away again, so it is going to be interesting to see how we respond, and it could be a good opportunity potentially to make some changes.”
Anglesea defeated Modewarre before the bye and has won four of its past five games, but a loss to Torquay would almost certainly put an end to its finals chances.
Gleeson said it was imperative his players responded in the right manner on the training track and on game day to avoid another defeat.
Both sides will be sweating on the availability of a handful of injured players at selection on Thursday night.
The Tigers defeated Anglesea by 71 points when the two teams met in Round 4.
