Beach club redevelopment

- JEMMA RYAN

THE community will get its chance to discuss the proposed Ocean Grove Surf Beach Complex redevelopment with key stakeholders at an open house event this weekend.

A planning permit application to redevelop the facility that houses the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club and The Dunes cafe has been lodged with the City of Greater Geelong and the contents of the application will be made public before it is determined by the city.

Barwon Coast General Manager Gary McPike said the proposed building will de- liver valuable improvements to the services provided to residents and visitors.

“The building will provide a significant increase in the useable space of both facilities, with The Dunes cafe increasing from 231 square meters of lettable space to 579 square meters and the OGSLSC increasing from 752 square meters to 1980 square meters,” he said.

“Public toilet facilities are increased and also supplemented with additional facilities in both the Café and SLSC.”

The redevelopment will provide state-of-the-art lifesaving and clubroom facilities for the successful and expand- ing SLSC that bases its operations out of the existing hub.

“It will be a new community facility capable of catering for major functions seating almost 300 people,” Mr McPike said.

Mr McPike said the improvements will be achieved without any significant increase to the site footprint.

The development is now commencing on the detailed design phase and project partners Barwon Coast and Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club have formed a Project Control Group (PCG) to work cooperatively on advancing the plans.

Representatives will be at the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving club lounge on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
