London Fog bids for gong
LONDON Fog continues to build on his impressive CV, nominated for Country Racing Victoria’s Racehorse of the Year award.
The five-year-old, bred by Ben Casanelia and owned by him and several other prominent locals including Tim McGrath, won the Ballan Cup and was runner-up in the Wodonga Cup.
“It’s a bit of a thrill, it’s nice to be in the nominations,” Casanelia said.
“He probably surprised us (this preparation). He has just kept on improving even though he was a bit awkward in the action.
“He is competitive. He’s lazy and casual around the stable, like a big dog. But he knows when it’s race time and he is just so competitive.”
London Fog, formerly trained by Freshwater Creek’s Jamie Edwards, ran third in the Koroit and Colac cups, capping off an impressive season.
He was also crowned the Thoroughbred Club of Geelong’s Racehorse of the Year in 2016.
Terry and Karina O’Sullivan’s Patch Adams and Golden Oldies, Darren Weir’s High Church and Austy Coffey’s Vianden were also nominated for Country Racing Victoria’s Horse of the Year award.
High Church is the favourite, performing well in the city and also winning the Werribee and Warrnambool cups.
Owners transferred London Fog to Warrnambool’s Symon Wilde recently and they are expecting their galloper to head back to the races soon.
He had a trial at Casterton and had a solid gallop at Warrnambool this week.
London Fog, who was syndicated out by Casanelia for $100 a share, has given owners an amazing journey so far.
He was won five races and netted connections $193,525 in stake money.
“We’ve just had so much fun with him,” Casanelia said.
