Inverleigh set to welcome all

“We pride ourselves on our hospitality and homecooked meals.”

INVERLEIGH is rolling out the welcome mat for its annual Open Week.

And if you’ve never been there before there are a few things you should know.

The course is in sensational condition, the sand greens make things interesting, and the post-round food and hospitality is worth the entry fee alone.

The Open Week starts on August 4 and finishes on August 6, with men’s, women’s and mixed competition over the three days.

Inverleigh Golf Club’s tournament secretary, Deb Nicholls, said the men’s tournament on August 5 had been moved from 27 holes to 18.

“A lot of people don’t want to play 27 holes anymore. It’s a long day and people are at the club from 8am to 5pm,” Nicholls said.

“We will trial it this year (to see how it goes). A few of the clubs are going that way now.

Reigning champion Brad Dunn will return to defend his title.

Entry for ladies’ day on August 4 is $20, while it is $30 for the men.

The 4BBB any combination competition on August 6 is just $30 per pair.

“We pride ourselves on our hospitality and home-cooked meals that you get after you play,” Nicholls said.

She said the Open Week was a major fundraiser for the club.

Inverleigh and Bannockburn are the only two sand green clubs in the region. A number of Inverleigh’s holes are modelled on those from Melbourne’s famed sand belt.

“The rain we had earlier on has been sensational for us,” Nicholls said.

There will be volunteers on some holes to help players scrape the green.
