Damond home searched

- – MATHEW MURPHY

INVESTIGATORS were granted permission to search Justine Damond’s home hours after she was shot and killed by a Minneapolis cop, court documents reveal.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension applied for the warrant to search for bodily fluids, controlled substances and writings which might indicate a motive.

Ms Damond, 40, was shot and killed by Officer Mohamed Noor on July 15 after she called 911 to report a possible sexual assault happening outside her home.

Joseph Daly, an emeritus professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, said that he does not believe the application shows probable cause to search her home. “Is she a suspect? I don’t understand why they’re looking for controlled substances inside her home. I don’t understand why they’re looking for writings inside her home. The warrant does not explain that,” he said.

Meanwhile it has been revealed that Ms Damond’s family could receive millions in damages. Her family have hired respected lawyer Bob Bennett, who has represented several police shooting victims’ families, including that of Philando Castile, who was killed in St Anthony, Minnesota, as he reached for his ID during a traffic stop.
