JOURNALISTS PLAY KEY ROLE IN TRYING TIMES
NAVARONE Farrell’s last column (Take Two, GA, 26/7) says adieu to Geelong, but doesn’t say where he is going. Let’s hope he stays in journalism. I don’t think journalists realise how important they are to our community and to the world in general.
The 21st century has brought times of great change and uncertainty, which will surpass the Industrial Revolution in its consequences for humanity.
In such times, when the forces of reaction and progression collide, there is a great need for questioning the powers that be. This is the realm of the journalist, who is the voice of the silent majority of people.
In the immortal words of Don Chipp, we need to “keep the bastards honest”. Good luck, Navarone. Spencer Leighton, Torquay
