Anti-vaxxer documentary tour headed for Geelong

- HARRISON TIPPET

A CONTROVERSIAL national tour of anti-vaxxers is on its way to Geelong.

The Australian Vaccination-sceptics Network has brought the notorious documentary Vaxxed to Australia, for a run of ultra-secretive screenings and to film the stories of local “vaccine injury victims”.

The filmmakers will come to Geelong days after the head of the Australian Medical Association called on Brisbane City Council to ban a planned screening of the infamous doco.

AMA president Michael Gannon last week told the Courier Mail the film “could end up being harmful to its citizens”.

“If the largest local government body in the nation is interested in the health of its citizens . . . then it should make a stand and ban the screening of the film,” Dr Gannon said.

Showings of Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe have been held in strictly secret locations across the country, with sites announced hours before viewings. The secret Melbourne viewing is expected days before the group comes to Geelong.

AVN president Tasha David said the travelling filming crew would give local vaccination sceptics a voice.

“Our media and our government have tried for too long to pretend these families don’t exist,” Ms David said. “We are here to say that we will no longer remain silent.

“We will be vocal and active and we will demand both representation and freedom from this government that is apparently intent upon removing both these rights from our community.”

The visit comes after accused anti-vaxxer Therese Kerr was dumped from a keynote speaking role at a local business group event in May.

Ms Kerr was axed after her role at the breakfast was questioned by local doctors, including one who claimed she was attempting to profit from bogus health scares.

The Commonwealth’s “No Jab, No Pay” policy requires parents to have children immunised to be eligible for family payments.
