Paws out for shelter to carry on

- NICHOLAS PAYNE

LEOPOLD groomer Michelle Callanan is throwing a puppy party next month to raise money for Geelong-based animal shelter Adopt Me Inc.

Local businesses have also come on board to support the event, which is being held at South Geelong’s Geelong Boxing and Obstacle Training Centre (also known as the Funhouse) on August 6.

The day will feature a session from In2K9 dog training, a jumping castle courtesy of Jump On It, a sausage sizzle, kids activities and hair colouring from Hair by Emma H and power and circuit training for humans.

“I’m trying to involve lots of little businesses,” Ms Callanan said. “It’s really good for everyone.”

Ms Callanan, who runs Paw Pacers dog grooming, said she was trying to raise as much money as possible for Adopt Me Inc to continue its work.

“They’re dedicated to saving and rehoming four-legged friends (but) the vet bills soon add up very, very quickly, so that’s why I do this,” she said.

Founded in 2013 by locals Jason Ibbotson, Cass Langdon and Jemima Ibbotson, Adopt Me Inc is a small rescue group that takes in unwanted animals and prepares them physically and mentally to be rehomed.

The volunteer group rehabilitates their furry drop-ins with vet work such as desexing, microchipping and vaccinations, as well as rehabilitation within a private home.

Ms Callanan said the fundraiser would also include a food drive, giving visitors a chance to donate pet food.

The Adopt Me Inc fundraiser is being held from 10am to 1pm, on Sunday, August 6, at the Geelong Boxing and Obstacle Training Centre.
