Daicos in line for Pies debut

- BEN HIGGINS

FATHER-SON Magpie Josh Daicos is in line to make his AFL debut.

Daicos is among a host of eye-catching inclusions and casualties ahead of Round 19 with Jack Riewoldt injured at training, Todd Goldstein overlooked, Travis Cloke recalled and Bachar Houli’s return from suspension.

Taken with pick No. 57 in last year’s draft, Daicos collected 23 disposals in Collingwood’s thrilling VFL win over Richmond last week to impress Nathan Buckley. It would be just the second debutant this season for the Magpies, following fellow father-son gun Callum Brown.

Matt Scharenberg, Tom Phillips and Mason Cox have also been named in the extended squad with Travis Varcoe the only confirmed out. Darcy Moore will be given until Sunday to prove his fitness after a neck injury scare last week.

At Richmond, Riewoldt’s injury shock is a major blow ahead of a trip to the Gold Coast to face bogy team, the Suns. The Tigers spearhead was injured at training, suffering a cut to the cornea which caused bleeding behind the eye.

Former Sun Dion Prestia will miss the clash against his old club, rested with knee soreness as Houli returns from his four-week suspension for striking.

Ahead of a trip to Hobart to face Melbourne, North Melbourne has resisted the urge to recall All-Australian ruckman Todd Goldstein, preferring to recall Braydon Preuss.
