LADDER POSITION NO WORRY FOR McSPARRON

-

LADDER position remains irrelevant for Ammos cocoach Rowan McSparron.

Geelong Amateur moved to within four points of ladder leader Torquay after its victory over Barwon Heads, but McSparron was not overly fazed where his team ended up come the end of the year.

The Tigers clash with Barwon Heads in the final round of the season and, if the Seagulls can take the four points, then Ammos are in prime position to steal the minor premiership.

“Over the last three years, we’ve gone both ways, we’ve finished on top and gone straight in and we’ve finished third and had to play the first week of finals,” McSparron said.

“I’m not saying this year is going to be anything different, we’ve been able to manage blokes and get them through that way, so I don’t think it worries us either way. I just hope that the last game is a good game between Torquay and Barwon Heads.

“The run home doesn’t worry me, why look three weeks ahead to the finals if we’re waiting for Barwon Heads to beat Torquay? If you’re living your life like that as a football club you’re not going anywhere.”

But before switching attention to Round 18, Ammos must first overcome an in-form Modewarre.

“Next week is going to be another good challenge, Modewarre is a fantastic football club ... we know they are going to be a really good side to come up against,” he said.

“Modewarre and Barwon Heads do play a pretty similar style of footy, but, in saying that, it doesn’t worry me at all.

“It gives us something to work on, we know we are not perfect and there are areas of the game we want to improve so that just gives us an opportunity to work on those.”
