Murdoch in knife mishap

- LACHIE YOUNG

YOU might have heard of the Cats in the cradle with a silver spoon but have you heard of the Cat in the kitchen with a knife and an avocado?

Geelong speedster Jordan Murdoch was in that precise situation before his team’s match against Carlton on Saturday and found the going with the fruit a bit tough, cutting into his left hand.

There was no serious damage done to Murdoch but it was enough for him to see the club doctor and get stitches, and it did leave him with numbness for the rest of the day.

“My left hand was numb for the whole game, so it was a bit of a weird one,” Murdoch said.

“I basically cut the first half and there wasn’t enough of a seed for me to go horizontal with the knife, so I went with the point and the seed split and the knife just went through the avocado and through my hand.

“So I had a couple of stitches and a bit of local anaesthetic, just with the club doctor.”

Murdoch’s avocado mishap came a week after Geelong swingman Harry Taylor greeted Adelaide’s Josh Jenkins with a slice of ham after the game in response to the key forward’s food poisoning earlier that week.

It didn’t have any great impact on the 25-year-old’s game as he finished the night with a career-best 12 marks, four tackles and a season-high return of 22 possessions and three goals against the Blues.

The left-footer said there was never any danger he would miss the game, and laughed off the incident as annoying.

“It was just a bit of a pain in the ass with my preparation, you don’t really account for that,” he said.
