HANDS UP FOR A GOOD TIME

- NADIA DIMATTINA

SOME talent doesn’t need to be judged or eliminated.

For 3000 students across Victoria, the annual theatrical extravaganza is their time to shine.

Seventy-eight students from the Geelong region had their last group rehearsal with dance director Deon Nuku last week, ahead of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular on September 16.

Featuring an array of talent from singers to dancers to roller skaters, puppeteers and magicians, it’s no surprise this annual production is a must-see event on the performing arts calendar.

Company manager Brad Lowry said this year’s theme for the show is “anything is possible”.

“It’s based around opportunity and wanting to encourage that feeling that people can achieve anything that their mind is apt to achieve,” he said.

The schools have been rehearsing since March and have “been kicking a lot of goals”.

“It’s building to being a really great show,” Mr Lowry said.

Students who participate in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular are provided with a “once in a lifetime experience”, he said.

“The main thing I look forward to is to see the kids’ faces when they get off the stage because they have the best experience,” Mr Lowry said.

“Anything is possible” is a show full of surprises: “The best way to describe it is as a big variety show that is similar to the opening ceremony for the Olympics.”
