Tatlock steps up to challenge

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

TEAGAN Tatlock can expect offers to come her way next season after producing a stellar first year at Big V Youth League 1 women’s level.

The Corio Bay Stingrays star averages a competitionleading 17.78 points a game and has amassed a league-high 59 assists and 85 free throws.

The Point Lonsdale resident has played representative basketball for seven years, but this year decided to take it to the next level, joining the Stingrays’ Youth League team.

Tatlock also tests herself against the open-age women for Pivot City in Division 1 women.

“I have played basketball since I was five or six,” the 17year-old said.

“I used to live in Melbourne so I played domestic in Broadmeadows and played a couple of years of rep there, and then we moved down to this region and I’ve been playing rep- resentative for Bellarine for six or seven years.

“This season I thought I’d do extra, so I went over to Corio and have had a really good season.”

Competition-leading statistics suggest Tatlock would be in the mix for the league’s most valuable player.

“Honestly, it would be amazing but I can’t imagine that happening,” she said.

“I’d be really grateful if I did, but there are some really strong girls in the comp. If it did happen I’d be surprised.”

With finals starting this weekend — the Stingrays (third) play Camberwell in a second-chance final away from home Sunday — Tatlock is hoping the side can finish the season on a high.

“It’s really exciting; we’re happy we’ve made finals — I know in previous years we haven’t made finals, but this year we’re really excited to hopefully do well and finish the season successfully,” she said.
