Warriors play on Ammos’ mind

-

MODEWARRE coach Matt Armstrong says his side has nothing to lose in a top-ofthe-table BFL netball clash against Geelong Amateur today.

Last year’s grand finalist fell at the Warriors’ hands just six weeks ago in a narrow 31-29 result, but Armstrong said his side would struggle to steal top spot from Ammos with a game and percentage to make up.

But Armstrong said his side would enjoy a psychological boost ahead of finals if it could derail Ammos for a second time this season.

“No doubt it gives you confidence when you come up against a side you’ve beaten twice throughout the year,” he said. “But at the end of the day we’ve got to keep our eye on the prize.

“Although it’s nice to get the win, they’re just home and away games. “Finals is a whole different ball game and what we’ve got to keep in mind is when finals come around, the intensity goes up and the whole game changes.

“It would definitely be nice to get this win under our belt and go into finals beating them twice, we know come finals they’re very experienced and they’re going to be a tough side to beat.”

The Warriors have treated the last month of the season as a “mini finals series”, prevailing over third-placed Torquay and fourth-placed Ocean Grove in the past fortnight.

“It’s just about continuing to work on the structures we’ve put in place since the start,” Armstrong said.

“The last three weeks have been good for us — we’ve had Torquay and Ocean Grove — and we’ve been treating this month like a mini finals series.’’
