GEELONG College student Agnes Emma-Nnopu will press her case for an Australian berth when she takes part in a Sapphires Under-16 Selection Camp next month.

Agnes will travel to Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence in Canberra from September 4-6 for the trials, which will see 18 culled to 12 to represent Australia in October at the FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup in Bengaluru, India.

Following a successful season with the SEABL Geelong Lady Supercats, Agnes in confident in her bid for selection.

“I’m really excited. I’m making sure I’m in the best physical shape and training hard to make sure my skills don’t drop down,” she said.

Agnes, 16, said the opportunity to play with the Supercats has been instrumental to her development.

“It’s great playing with the (Supercats) girls, they have so much experience and I’m learning a lot,” she said.

The 180cm year 10 student said her “overall dream” postschool is to attend college in the United States.

Agnes balances her commitments to both the Lady Supercats and her representative team, Bellarine Storm, and with SEABL finals starting on Saturday, she’ll be one of the youngest to step on the court this weekend.

Agnes plays for the Lady Supercats alongside fellow Geelong College schoolgirl Eve Braslis, 17.

“Eve and I play Bellarine Storm with each other as well. It’s really good having her on the (Supercats) team as we both know each other’s games,” Agnes said.

This year’s Bellarine Storm selection trials will commence on September 5 – see the Bellarine Storm Facebook page for details.
