Coasters warm up their fans by snatching

- ESSENDON UNITED GEELONG RANGERS TONCI PRUSAC SURF COAST GOLDEN PLAINS

SURF Coast came away from a cold and wet Bannockburn Recreation Precinct on Saturday night with all three points as well as bragging rights after defeating Golden Plains 2-1 in a typically tough State 4 derby clash.

The visitors were off to a dream start in the fourth minute when a Surf Coast free kick was taken from the left.

The ball was not cleared and was eventually headed out to an unmarked Thomas Langman, who slotted it home from close range.

Golden Plains had to wait until almost the end of the half to find the equaliser.

In the 42nd minute, Nathan Munoz crossed from the right and found Anthony Tavic outside the box, whose firsttime shot managed to navigate a path to the target.

Midway through the second period, the home side was presented with a delightful opportunity to take the lead.

In the 75th minute, Jake Krilcic outran a Coasters’ defender and shot past the advancing goalkeeper Joel Gawne.

Although Krilcic did poke it past Gawne, a Surf Coast defender was on hand to clear the ball off the line.

Two minutes later, Golden Plains was reduced to 10 men when Munoz was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.

With the game seemingly headed for a stalemate, in the 81st minute Surf Coast made a penetrating run down the wing into the box and the shot was rebounded in for an own goal to give the visitors a memorable 2-1 triumph.
