Still shedload to go, so couple settle in

-

A STAND-OFF over a property in Portarlington remains unresolved.

Former owners Gus and Susan Kacinskas remained outside the Drysdale St house yesterday, five months after selling it.

They are set up in an old van opposite the home, keeping an eye on a mountain of their possessions still on the property, including in the shed and throughout the yard.

The stand-off has meant new owners Rebecca and Jon Ansell have been unable to move into their dream home.

This is despite an extended five-month settlement period, which was set to allow the Kacinskas’ time to remove their extensive array of items.

A City of Greater Geelong spokesman said it was a difficult issue.

“City local laws officers have visited the property today to assess the situation, and to hopefully help resolve what appears to be a very complex issue,” he said.

“The city might also contact other support agencies to assist the parties involved.”

Mr Ansell told the Geelong Advertiser yesterday that when the couple bought the home, the sheds and the backyard were packed to the brim with cars, car parts, mechanical items and building materials.

“We were quite concerned about it so we gave them a fivemonth settlement period,” he said.

“We made it really clear in our contract that everything needs to be moved. We even agreed to release the bond money early so they could use it to get the removalists in.”

The Kacinskas have bought a new home in Terang, near Warrnambool., but instead are living in an old van opposite the Ansell family’s new home to keep an eye on their possessions.

Mr Kacinskas said he just wants his belongings back and they would not leave until he gets them back.

“It’s a couple of trucks worth, the motors and things like that are mine, there’s tools as well,” the former owner said.
