Caught stealing security camera
Woman busted on CCTV
SECURITY cameras helped nab a Clifton Springs thief who stole security cameras from an electrical goods store.
The Geelong Magistrates’ Court heard Allison Sherwell, 30, stole the $589 security system from The Good Guys store at Thomastown in April 2015, fleeing in a waiting car as the alarm sounded.
Quizzed by police later, she said she pinched it to sell because she had mounting bills.
But her lawyer, Andrew Zingler, said the crime happened near the start of the woman’s ongoing battle with ice addiction.
The court heard she dishonestly used credit cards that did not belong to her in January and April this year, either side of a month-long stint she spent in jail for separate offences.
After her time behind bars she was also caught taking items from a supermarket in Geelong West and driving while her licence was suspended.
She pleaded guilty to four counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception, three of shop theft and one of driving while suspended in court yesterday.
The court heard the defendant had community corrections orders still to complete, and was trying her best to shed her ice habit.
“She says to me she is a drug addict,” Mr Zingler said.
“Every morning she wakes up she has to convince herself not to use that day.”
With other allegations against her expected to come before the court, magistrate John Lesser deferred sentence on yesterday’s matters.
“I want to keep you out of further trouble ... (but) if you keep reoffending you’re going to end up back in jail,” he told the defendant.
