Live streaming makes Supercats finals twice as nice

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

BASKETBALL fans will be given every access to the Supercats’ two SEABL finals, with the club set to simultaneously stream both matches live on Facebook.

The men’s game starts at 6.30pm on Saturday in Nunawading, half an hour before the women’s home preliminary final against Sydney Uni.

Fans are being invited to head to The Arena, too, with the men’s final to be streamed on screens inside the court.

“People will be able to watch the men’s game from the grandstand,” Supercats chief executive Dean Anglin said.

“It won’t be over the top of the court but it will be on televisions around the grandstand.

“The women’s game will be happening on court in front of them and the men’s final will be streamed on to screens above the seating, so they can watch both games.”

For those following at home, the Supercats will — for the first time — stream both games live, with commentary, over Facebook.

Last weekend’s men’s elimination final reached close to 15,000 people and drew more than 1600 views.

“I think it’s been one of those revelations for us,” Anglin said.

“In the last couple of years we’ve tried to get our streaming right. We’ve done a lot of it through YouTube and the numbers just haven’t really been there to make it worth while.

“Then all of a sudden we got to doing it through Facebook Live and our numbers have been enormous — 14,000 to 15,000 people getting reached by every game is pretty impressive.

“This weekend we will stream, simultaneously, the men’s and women’s finals, so we’re going to give our fans every opportunity so see them play.”

The SEABL women’s final at The Arena will be preceded by the Big V Division 1 women’s final at 5pm.

Anglin said there was a terrific vibe at the club. “It’s a good place to be,” he said.
