Stingrays to choose president

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

CORIO Bay Stingrays will appoint a new president at their annual general meeting on September 5, after Mike Nelson stepped down from the role two months ago.

Acting president Cara Spangaro said the club had the opportunity to restructure its committee at the AGM and establish a plan for the club’s long-term sustainability.

“Over the next few weeks we’ll be in the decision-making (stage),” Spangaro said.

“We have an AGM on September 5, so we’re looking forward to that.

“The focus is on making sure we get the structure right — that we have a committee structure that has a really good vision about where our program wants to be.

“Mike stepped down eight weeks ago, so I’ve been acting since then. I’ve been vicepresident for five or six long years. We’ll be calling for nominations this week and a lot of our committee members will be people who put their hands up for positions.”

While no big agenda items will be tackled at the AGM, Spangaro said that it would form an important part of the club’s future.

“We have a big group of people working together, looking at planning our future success,” she said.

“We have our Stingrays junior tryouts in a few weeks and once we get a feel for team entries for next season, we’ll review it ongoing.”
