Reigning Supreme

-

LOCAL foodies have less than two weeks left to try the region’s latest novelty food offering — The Geelongest Pizza.

The Pizza Box, Norlane, and online food delivery service Menulog have partnered to create a 2m pizza in the region’s most popular flavour, Supreme.

It comes after local pizza lovers voted the combination of ham, bacon, mushroom, onion, capsicum, olives and pineapple their favourite pizza topping in a recent online poll.

Rory Murphy, of Menulog, said pizza made up 35 per cent of all Menulog orders in the Geelong region.

“Geelong is booming when it comes to online food delivery so what better way to celebrate than by supersizing Geelong’s favourite cuisine,” he said.

The Pizza Box owner Kali Hovey said it had been a challenge working out how to cook and deliver a 2m pizza.

“We’ve designed new pans, new pizza boxes and are using new delivery methods — a 2m pizza is a bit big for a bike,” she said.

While pizza was the region’s most popular cuisine, it was closely followed by Thai and Indian food.

Grilled foods such as ribs and burgers are on the rise.

The Geelongest Pizza is available for the month of August exclusively via the Menulog website and app.

As part of the launch, Menulog will deliver Geelongest Pizzas to Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds Campus from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday for students to enjoy a free slice.
