Classy trio add to St Joseph’s legend

- LACHIE YOUNG

THE rich breeding ground for football talent at St Joseph’s College has produced another trio of future stars.

Fresh from a win at the School Sport Australia championships where they represented Victoria, Noah Gadsby, Charlie Lazzaro and Tanner Bruhn were selected in the under-15s All-Australian team after superb individual carnivals.

Gadsby plays locally for Torquay and said the experience of playing for Victoria was made even more enjoyable by the fact he had his schoolmates out on the ground with him.

“It was an honour to represent the state for the first time and it was great to have Tanner and Charlie alongside me – it was a great experience together,” Gadsby said.

Bruhn, whose father Matt won a Mathieson Medal in 1996, plays in the midfield for Newtown but also spent time on the wing for Victoria, where he was regularly named among the team’s best players.

He was part of the under-12 Victorian team in 2014 alongside Lazzaro and said having Gadsby join them this year was a special feeling.

“I couldn’t think of anything better, after a pretty good carnival with two of my best mates, it’s great,” Bruhn said.

St Mary’s product Lazzaro said all three had worked tirelessly throughout the carnival and would now push for further honours in the years ahead.

“It’s a great honour, and it’s a credit to all of us for how hard we worked over the carnival,” Lazzaro said.

“From here I’ve come back to the Geelong Falcons but looking into the future I’d like to push myself to represent Victoria and hopefully Australia in the future.

“It’s a big ask but that’s what I’m aiming for.”

All three have been named in the Geelong Falcons under-15 V-Line Cup team and will represent St Joseph’s this afternoon in the Year 10 Herald Shield grand final against Xavier College.
