TAKING the leap to make a career change or returning to the workforce after some extended time off can be a daunting prospect.

Universities and TAFES are not the only answers when it comes to upskilling. In fact, the thing you need could be just around the corner.

People wanting to learn on the Bellarine can take full advantage of the local Ocean Grove Neighbourhood Centre.

The centre is a leading Nationally Recognised Training Institute offering certificate III to diploma level courses in the community.

Courses include hospitality, aged care and health services, administration, children’s services and community services.

Manager Nicki Dunne said the centre had provided many local people with greater employment opportunities.

“Our nationally recognised training within a supported learn-local community sector provides an all-round service to those returning to work and study,” Ms Dunne said.

“We have so many great success stories here in Ocean Grove. We have had one student who has returned to work from family duties and completed their Certificate III in individual support and now has full-time employment.

“We have another who came to us for a career change from chef to youth worker and completed their diploma of youth work and diploma of mental health and alcohol and other drugs.”

There are many other benefits for choosing a provider like Ocean Grove Neighbourhood Centre.

Courses are available with Federal and State Government funding for students who meet eligibility criteria, class sizes are small – meaning students are supported throughout their course as a valued student not a number, they may be able to fund your childcare, and all placement requirements are organised by the centre.

“Currently 96 per cent of students completing a course at OGNC gain employment within their field of study,” Ms Dunne said.

“OGNC has achieved a high rating on all Government audits and reporting.”

The centre will hold its Open Day during Adult Learners Week on Friday, September 8, 11am to 1pm.

Visitors can meet the trainers and receive career advice and to help make the change in their life.

Any booking for a course received on this day will benefit from a 10 per cent discount on course fees.
