Off to market at Inverleigh

THE unofficial transition from footy season to fun run season will take place this weekend, when Run Geelong takes over Simonds Stadium to celebrate the launch of its popular fundraiser.

Volunteer staff from Geelong hospital will be signing people up to the annual event on the concourse and hosting pre-match kids races ahead of tonight’s Cats clash with GWS.

The much-loved run returns on Sunday, November 19, with Cats skipper Joel Selwood, fashion blogger Nadia Bartel, THE region’s market scene has been steadily growing for a number of years, and now the newest monthly market is set to kick off in a matter of weeks.

The first Inverleigh Produce and Lifestyle Market will be held from 10am-2pm on Sunday, September 17.

The market, which has more than 40 confirmed stallholde­rs, will be held on the grassed area opposite the Inverleigh Hotel.

Makers and growers will sell fresh fruit and vegetables and unique, locally made arts and crafts. Musicians will perform as marketgoer­s shop and enjoy tasty snacks from the food vans.

In other exciting foodie news this week, Aussie Farmers Direct’s Paralympia­n Richard Colman and Australian netballer Madi Robinson signed on as local ambassador­s.

This year, the event will raise much-needed funds for a Barwon Health kids’ rehabilita­tion centre.

Keisha Low, 3, is the face of this year’s Barwon Health Kids Appeal and will attending the game tonight.

Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at eight months, Keisha has made huge leaps forward, thanks to help from the Community Rehabilita­tion Centre at the announced the local launch of its new Choose Your Own meal boxes. Timepoor Geelong residents can choose from 50 seasonal recipes, delivered to their doorstep together with everyday items such as bread, milk, eggs and other pantry staples.

Recently unveiled plans for a new kids’ centre include a children’s gym with child-sized equipment to help with walking, moving arms and hands, and quiet spaces for counsellin­g and therapy.

The centre will be fully financed by the community, with plans to raise $3 million in the next three years.
