Armed to teeth for fun of disc connect

-

FLYING disc dog Mickey Mouse showed he was dental as anything for a bit of airborne fun yesterday.

The Flipping Disc Dogz were the star attraction at Inverleigh Golf Course yesterday to showcase the fun and action of people playing disc golf.

The cunning canines ducked and weaved across the emerald turf to promote the sport, which has gained quite a following in the Geelong region.

More than 60 people took part in the come-andtry day, attempting to throw the frisbee-like objects into an elevated basket.

Geelong Disc Golf Club spokesman Andrew Ferguson said the sport here was based at the Barwon Valley Park in Belmont but players could compete on any course across the region.

“The rules are very similar to golf and so are the terms we use — we have birdies, bogeys, holes-inone,” he said.

“Like golf with putters, there are different types of disc depending on the target. Also like golf, the object of the game is to get the disc in the basket in the least number of attempts possible.”

Mr Ferguson said that about a dozen Geelong region players were set to take part in the national championships in Perth in November.

“Plenty of people get into disc golf because it’s a fun activity that you don’t have to take seriously, but there are people that really do excel at it,” he said.
