BELMONT HOUSE SELLS FOR NEARLY $900K
A TWO-YEAR search for a dream house is finally over for a Melbourne family set to relocate to Geelong.
Claudia and David Sozzi trumped the field at Saturday’s auction of 32 Thomson St, Belmont, with a winning bid of $889,5000.
The Sozzis plan to move into the Federation-style house, known as Austen House, with their two children.
Mrs Sozzi said her husband was instantly taken with the property, which sits on 990sq m just one block from High St.
“It’s a good family home and we are moving down from Melbourne,” she said.
“We have been looking for about two years.”
The large backyard, with its oak tree and swimming pool, is sure to be a hit with the children, although Mrs Sozzi said they were in for a surprise as they were yet to lay eyes on their new home.
A large crowd of more than 100 people gathered on both sides of Thomson St for the auction, which had a price expectation of between $850,000 and $900,000.
Bidding opened at $700,000 and two parties fought it out before the house was declared on the market at $880,000.
It took 35 bids in total before the hammer finally fell.
McGrath Real Estate auctioneer David Cortous said Austen House was a “showstopper of a home” that attracted interest because of its central location, character and land size.
