Highton Village vision
THERE are two weeks left for the community to have its say on a proposed revamp of the Highton Village.
The City of Greater Geelong is accepting feedback on its draft Highton Village Urban Design Framework — a proposed total makeover for the area — with submissions closing on September 26.
CoGG acting director of planning and development Geoff Lawler encouraged residents to have their say on the draft design.
“The city has developed an exciting proposal for a new public plaza in Belle Vue Ave, Highton, that includes more trees and greenery, new seating, a play area, and space for streettrading and public events,” Mr Lawler said.
“The city has developed this project with community input — through a design workshop held in November 2016, attended by 130 residents and traders.”
The proposed revamp also includes plans for improved parking and traffic management, streetscape upgrades for Barrabool Rd and the laneways, and the design guidelines for new buildings, “to protect village’s low-scale character”.
City officers will be available to meet with residents at the Belle Vue Ave pedestrian crossing on Thursday, September 14 (1.304.30pm), Friday, September 15 (10am-noon), and Saturday, September 16 (10am-noon).
Following the draft consultation, the city’s incoming councillors will consider the final plans.
