City visit after duck broken

- RYAN REYNOLDS RACING

FRESHWATER Creek trainer Jamie Edwards will head back to the city with classy filly Minyinga.

The three-year-old broke her maiden in style at Geelong on Friday, defying her $41 price to put away a decent field.

And while she might have been unwanted in the market, Edwards was confident his filly would run well.

“I really like her. She is fairly trained up today after coming back (from 1500m),” he said.

Minyinga finished down the track at 1500m at Sandown her previous start, but Edwards said he was happy to draw a line through that performance, believing she failed to run the trip.

“Looks that way doesn’t it?” he said when asked if Minyinga might be a 1200m to 1400m horse.

“She is out of a Street Cry mare and I thought she might have been a chance of running in one of those three-year-old fillies races over a bit of a trip.

“We brought her back to 1300m, sat her off the speed and she hit the line good.”

Given a gem of a ride by Noel Callow, Minyinga appreciated the drop back from a city maiden, building momentum out three wide before storming home late.

Callow agreed she could measure up in town.

“Jamie has always had an opinion of this horse before it raced,” he said.

“She will go to midweek somewhere and be competitive.” MEANWHILE, Barwon Heads trainer Steve Pateman has got the best out of Lily’s Reward, who broke her maiden in race three.

With plenty of gear to keep her calm in the barriers, the four-year-old jumped well and hit the line hard to break through at only her second start for the Pateman stable.
