SILOS THE PLACE FOR A CONVENTION CENTRE

RE a possible resurrection of the Geelong cement silos (GA 5/9), a further consideration could be given to establishing the long sought-after convention centre.

This site is remarkably suited for such a project and could incorporate the silos.

For example: The main restaurant on top, with several levels devoted to specific cuisines, such as German, French, Italian, Greek, Chinese or Japanese.

Several levels could cater for casino activities, with two levels for administration.

A spectacular atrium at the base from which the convention building would extend.

There would be no limit to the size of the project (except expense) as a 4000-5000 seat facility is quite feasible. Already federal estate funding appears assured.

Access to such a project would be envied in many parts of the globe.

Apart from easily accommodating helicopter movements, exit from the Geelong Ring Road with one set of traffic lights, is through Fyansford up a new connection road to a point on McCurdy’s Rd, adjacent to the silos, an uncluttered journey of a few minutes.

A run into the city is uncomplicated. The only congestion would be at the opening and closing times at several schools.

As a further positive, an old bluestone building (no doubt of heritage value) stands neglected some few hundred metres from the silos.

This could be resurrected for accommodation purposes with ample surrounding land for extension. I see such a place booked out forever, especially as the views are just that — forever. Donald Bone, Clifton Springs

EVEN OUR NEW ROADS NEED URGENT REPAIRS

OUR disgraceful roads ( GA 9/9) shows many Geelong roads need urgent repairs.

Winchelsea side of the year-old Colac highway is like a patchwork quilt with all the pothole repairs.

They are now holding up traffic to fit safety barriers when you put your life on the line driving this stretch at night not seeing the massive potholes till it’s too late. Not long ago Sarah Henderson praised the new highway construction.

What a joke. Robert Martin, South Winchelsea

TEXT TALK

HEY GFC, please get rid of C. Scott. He’s costing us premierships. Let Geelong play the Geelong way. Attacking football with a solid defence, stop over-thinking. Pick your best team & let them do their stuff. Chris Scott it’s simple: you lost the game against Richmond, now win it back for us against Sydney. Prove to the longtime passionate members that you are worth your time here. Jamo, Belmont AMAZING, Geelong Cats finished 2nd on ladder, loses 1st final (playing away) then has to play an interstate team and still gets no home final. GWS finished 4th and lose 1st final and then get a home final. What the? I am positive, the AFL hates Geelong. Go Cats, Leopold GET real whingeing Cats supporters — we (yes, I’m one too) were well and truly outplayed by the most determined Tigers seen in many years (GA 11/9). We’re not out of the picture yet, just delayed. Cats fan TO all the critics of Chris Scott — if you think he can get to the grand final with that mob you don’t know much about footy. Vinny, Bell Post Hill
