Unlocked homes easy theft targets

SUBURBS targeted with multiple burglaries included Whittingto­n, Corio/Norlane and Newcomb. Other incidents spread through various suburbs within the Geelong area.

Seven garages were burgled

Six incidents involved entry to the residentia­l premises by an unlocked or open door or window.

Computer equipment, jewellery, tools and home items were stolen. INCIDENTS spread throughout various suburbs, all in Geelong area, with multiples burglaries in Lara and Geelong.

There were three incidents at schools, two at sports areas, two at constructi­on sites and a number at retail stores.

All were at night.

A high number of thefts from cars took place in Corio, Norlane, Geelong West, Newtown, Hamlyn Heights, Armstrong Creek and Marshall.

The incidents in Geelong West, Armstrong Creek and Marshall occurred in spates, generally over single nights.

Nearly all the incidents were in residentia­l premises late in the day or at night. No visible force was noted in more than half the incidents.

Number plates were stolen from three cars in Corio, two each from Geelong West and Norlane, with others taken from Bell Post Hill, Belmont, Lara, Leopold, Lovely Banks, Mount Duneed and Newtown.

Railway stations at South Geelong and Marshall were also targeted. Only a few vehicles were stolen this past week compared with the weekly average over the year.

A vehicle stolen from the Lara railway station was recovered in Corio.

Two cars taken from carports or driveways in Newcomb were located in Breakwater, while a car stolen from the frontyard in Thomson was found in Torquay and one stolen in Norlane was recovered close by in Norlane. INCIDENTS spread throughout various suburbs, mainly within the Geelong area, with multiples occurring in a number of suburbs including Norlane, Corio, Colac and Geelong.

An increase was seen in graffiti damage, along with the usual high number of damages occurring to vehicles and windows.

Most of the incidents occurred during late afternoon and at night, mostly at residentia­l premises, but also at train stations and a variety of other locations.
