Cook ready to stride out

- – HARRISON TIPPET

CATS CEO Brian Cook will lace up his runners to hit the road with thousands of Run Geelong participants in coming weeks.

The Geelong Football Club chief executive, pictured, will take on the 6km event on November 19, pounding the pavement to help raise funds and support for the Barwon Health Foundation.

The keen swimmer said he did not plan on breaking any records in the event.

“I’m going to walk the 6K,” Mr Cook said yesterday. “I’d love to do the run but I’m not a great runner any more.”

Recently appointed chairman of Barwon Health, he said the 2017 Run Geelong event would raise funds to support the development of Barwon Health’s paediatric rehabilitation service, the first of its kind in Australia.

“From a regional point of view, it’s basically a fund-raising drive, raising dollars for children’s health in the region,” he said. “It’s truly a local, regional community fund-raising event.”

All registration fees and donations at the Run Geelong event will go directly to the Barwon Health Foundation.

To date, Run Geelong has raised more than $3 million for the redevelopment of Barwon Health’s children’s ward, special care nursery, maternity day assessment unit and the maternity ward at Geelong hospital.
