No bail for sex assault accused

- CLAIRE MARTIN

A “DANGEROUS” Highton sex offender was caught loitering outside schools, approaching children and stalking local women, a court has heard.

Anton Mravak, 49, appeared before the Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with numerous offences including stalking, unlawful assault and sexual assault.

The court heard Mravak was a convicted sex offender who had been arrested on Thursday after failing to show up for court-ordered medical treatment.

Police informant Constable Mallory Armstrong said Mravak had a drug addiction and serious mental health issues.

“Over the past two weeks police have received countless calls from members of the public saying that the accused has been loitering around schools and bus stops in the Highton/ Belmont area and approaching children,” she said.

“Police are aware of the situation and have spoken to a number of people in relation to sexual assaults, unlawful assaults and stalking.”

She said Mravak had stalked one victim over a seven-month period — continuously turning up to her Moorabool St workplace.

Constable Armstrong said earlier this month that Mravak walked into the victim’s workplace while she was on the phone and grabbed her and kissed her.

“All the shopkeepers are aware of the accused as he attends the mall on most days — causing trouble for the shop keepers and members of the public,” Constable Armstrong said.

The court heard Mravak’s criminal history included the rape of an “18-year-old male while in custody in 2012 where the victim has then committed suicide only 10 months later”. She said in 2012 he raped another male twice.

“Police believe the accused is heading towards the same path and have extreme fears that the accused may commit this type of offence against members of the community if released on bail.”

Mravak, who represented himself, was clearly agitated and had to be escorted into the courtroom by four custody officers.

After being deemed a danger to the community and denied bail by Magistrate Frank Jones, Mravak told the court: “you’ll see me again, all of you, you’re all dogs, I’m a billionaire”.
