Spacious back yard is a big attraction

- GRAN SCAL

THE size of this Geelong West property is one of its biggest drawcards as it goes under the hammer today.

Positioned on 665sq m of land, the charming and renovated three-bedroom house at 1 Hodgson St, Geelong West, is attracting much interest, according to Hodges, Geelong West agent Marcus Falconer.

“The square metreage is at the upper end of what is offered as a standard size block in Geelong West,” Mr Falconer said.

“It is a very versatile home and provides an amazing opportunity.”

There is also potential for further renovation or development of the property, subject to council approval.

The property is going to auction today at 1pm. Price expectations are $550,000$600,000. LONG-TIME Hamlyn Heights residents John and Karen Carpenter paid just $12,500 for their house at 20 Gladstone St when they bought it 40 years ago.

Next weekend they hope to sell it at auction for an expected price of between $450,000 and $470,000.

Mr Carpenter said, while the suburb had been a great place to raise a family, now the kids had left home it was time for the retirees to move on.

He said he was a “little bit” surprised by the increase in property prices in the neighbourhood in recent times. “Apparently it’s a pretty good area,” he said.

The Carpenters’ weatherboard house is close to the Minerva Rd shops and has an inground pool in the backyard.

It will be auctioned on September 23 at 10.30am.
