to reach top level and essentially be scouted for opportunities in the W-league.”
A club that is effectively nomadic, Galaxy doesn’t have a permanent home and splits its training base between Surf Coast FC’s Banyul Warri Reserve and Corio Bay’s Evans Reserve complex in Norlane.
Despite the lack of a permanent training venue and a home base it can call its own, the Galaxians today will participate in their second consecutive WNPL finals series when they host Alamein FC in the elimination final at Torquay’s Banyul Warri Reserve.
Putting everything aside, Spiranovic is genuinely excited by the fact that today all the focus will be on Galaxy and its quest to go one better than last season’s appearance in the inaugural WNPL grand final when it was defeated by Calder United in extra time.
Spiranovic, who also plays for Melbourne Victory in the W-League, said Alamein FC was known for its high defensive press and the ability to work well as a unit.
“We have worked hard in training this week to prepare and cope with the increased amount of pressure we are expecting from Alamein,” the hardworking captain said.
“We will also look to shut down their players quickly as they have dangerous players, such as Amy Jackson and Christina Cardaci.”
Spiranovic has been in scintillating scoring form with 10 goals this year, as has her fellow attacking partner Lulu AlHuneidi.
“Lulu has had a great season for us with her striker instinct and ability to be in the right place at the right time contributing to the team’s success this season,” Spiranovic said.
“I’m sure we can expect the same from her this weekend.
“However as far as finals go, especially being an elimination final, everyone will need to step up and come out firing.
“Therefore it would mean a great deal to the players and everyone involved at the club to have local support come out in massive numbers for our game against Alamein.”
Kick off is at 4pm today.
