Gatlin keen to return

GEELONG Supercats’ most valuable player, DeMarcus Gatlin, says he’ll wait to hear if the SEABL club wants him back next season.

The American import took out the MVP award at the club’s presentation night on Sunday before jetting home.

But men’s coach Leon O’Neill told the Geelong Advertiser last month the Supercats would re-sign their local players before confirming their imports for next season.

Gatlin said he hoped to be a part of next year’s side.

“If Geelong is happy to take me back then I’m willing to return,” Gatlin said.

“I think our season was pretty good but it was unfortunate it ended the way it did. But I think I made some improvements and I still have even more room to progress.

“To win the MVP was cool but in my opinion there were multiple (others) who could’ve won that award. A couple of guys like Nathan (Herbert) and Ma’alo (Hicks) are just as valuable.”

Ebony Rolph tied with Sara Blicavs for the Lady Supercats’ MVP of the season.

Rolph also collected the Kylie Morrissy captain’s award, while Isabella Brancatisano received the coaches’ award.

David Herbert won Basketball Geelong’s Col Darrington coach of the year, while Pivot City collected the Geoff Smith club of the year award.
