Jason goes for club over family

- ALEX TIGANI THE BROTHERS

“He took a mark and kicked a goal very late in the game to put us back in front.

“It was a thrilling finish to the year.”

Relief and utter jubilation hit the players as the siren sounded.

“It was all those things,” Hodgson said.

“It’d been such a long time since the club had success.

“They were just a great bunch of blokes, a great bunch of people at the club, and the Saturday night at Inverleigh was one of the best night that I’d ever had.

“I’ve got such good memories.” AFTER Jason Grozdanovski walks off the ground following today’s GDFL reserves grand final for Bell Post Hill, he will have a foot in both camps. Many of his teammates, including his close friend Rhys Burke, will run out for the club’s well-documented 10th straight senior grand final. But the Panthers will be taking on an Inverleigh side featuring Grozdanovski’s younger brothers Daniel and Michael, forcing 27-year-old Jason to choose club over blood. “You have to stay true to the club, no questions,” Jason said. “At the end of the day, I hope they both play good games but ideally I’d like to see Bell Post Hill win by a point. “You play for a club for a reason and that’s to create the camaraderie with your teammates. “Our club has created a dynasty and we’d like to add another senior premiership to top that off.” The younger two brothers have been regulars in recent Inverleigh finals series and have both played at GDFL interleague level. “I do have that sentimental point of view with the brothers at Inverleigh and I know that they’ve worked hard over the past four years, but I’ll still be wearing red and blue,” Jason said. As one of 37 players to represent Bell Post Hill at senior level in 2017, having played four games, Jason said there was no disappointment of missing out on senior selection. “Cricket was (and still is) my main priority the last few years but I thought I’d have a bit of a muck around with a few of the boys from Bell Post Hill in the reserves,” he said. “I didn’t have any remote intention of being a regular seniors player, even when I was selected I just wanted to make the most out of the opportunity and leave it at that.” He predicts Bell Post Hill to win by 20 points at senior level, with Burke to be named best on ground.
