BEST ON GROUND IN THE BOX

- RYAN REYNOLDS

IT wasn’t Patrick Dangerfield or Harry Taylor. It wasn’t even Lachie Henderson, Mitch Duncan, Zach Tuohy or Sam Menegola.

In Geelong captain Joel Selwood’s eyes it was coach Chris Scott that deserved best on ground honours in his team’s 59-point thrashing of Sydney at the MCG last night.

Put under the blowtorch following last week’s heavy loss to Richmond, Scott answered his critics in the best way possible.

“It’s been a pretty big week,” Selwood said.

“The best thing about it, the coach set the standard last Friday night. As soon as we came in (after losing to Richmond by 51 points) he said we have to get over it quick, we (have) got to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get to work.

“He was the best player tonight with the way he set up the week and really (I’m) proud of him and the rest of the coaching group (with) did the job that they did.

“We just went out and performed the way that we needed to.”

Selwood finished his second game back from an ankle injury with 18 possessions.

The champion midfielder admitted he was “probably little bit off at the moment”, but “pulled up well” immediately after last night’s game.

“It’s been a bit of a journey,” Selwood said. “Now we will just recover up, get another week of work in.

“I’m confident I’ve still got some good footy in front of me.”

Every decision Geelong’s coaching group made turned to gold last night.

They moved Patrick Dangerfield forward and he was unstoppable in the forward half kicking 4.3 for a matchwinning lead that was never challenged.
