Bargain basement Bulldog tipped to be a Cat

-

GEELONG has thrown a lifeline to Western Bulldogs forward Stewart Crameri, according to reports last night.

The Cats have already been linked with Gary Ablett, Devon Smith and Jake Stringer, who would all add firepower to Geelong’s forward line next season.

But Channel 7 journalist Mark Stevens believes the Cats have offered a two-year deal to 190cm Crameri, who would play as a second tall forward alongside Tom Hawkins.

“I believe the Cats have offered Stewart Crameri a twoyear deal for next year,” Stevens said.

“He is yet to be signed by the Dogs.”

The Cats have failed to settle on a preferred forward six all year and small forwards Daniel Menzel and Steven Motlop remain uncontracted for next season.

Harry Taylor, with one more year to run on his longterm contract, would most likely return to defence next season, following the retirements of Tom Lonergan and Andrew Mackie.

“He would go to the Cats pretty much on minimum wage, but would be a great pick up,” Stevens added.

The former Bomber has kicked 166 goals from 99 games and is a four-time club leading goal kicker, but played just two games in two years.

He missed all of 2016 due to the Essendon drugs saga before hip injuries curtailed most of this season.

Meanwhile, former Western Bulldogs midfielder Adam Cooney says the Cats are “really keen” on Stringer.

But the Brownlow medallist said it wouldn’t make sense to see the All-Australian forward move further away from his children.

“Geelong are really keen, I know that,” Adam Cooney said on AFL Nation.

“(But) I think he’s pretty settled in Melbourne.

“If he lives in Geelong, that’s another hour (he has to travel to see his children).”
