Payback time for Galaxy

- RYAN REYNOLDS WNPL

GALAXY United has revenge on its mind as it prepares to shatter Calder’s premiership dreams tomorrow.

Calder defeated Galaxy to claim last year’s WNPL title and now stands in the way of this season’s grand final.

Galaxy goalkeeper Emily Kenshole said her team was on the hunt for redemption at ABD Stadium in Broadmeadows.

“I think we sort of want some redemption there to beat them. We want to win it, go all the way this year,” Kenshole said.

“I was second goalkeeper last year and I didn’t get to play finals, so sitting on the bench and not being able to do anything, that was really tough.

“But playing finals this year I definitely want to win because losing last year was just so painful.”

Calder and Galaxy have both enjoyed standout seasons in Victoria’s top flight.

Calder finished in second, losing just four games for the entire home and away season, two of them against Galaxy.

Kenshole said she was confident the Surf Coast-based team had what it took to get past their well-fancied rivals.

“We have been dominant when we have played them, which has been really good for us. Hopefully we can do that in the final and get on top of them early,” said the WNPL goalkeeper, who has also spent time at Melbourne Victory, of the season.

“If we can score one or two early and shut them down (that will go a long way to winning).

“They like to play some long balls. It means I have got to have a high line sometimes, know where my line is so I can come out if I have to or rely on my defenders to get back to get to them.”
