Heaps good guide on ‘Radelaide’ foray

- ROWAN FORSTER

CATS fans braving the land of the Crows have been urged to prepare a “survival guide” ahead of their tenure in “Radelaide”.

From cultural clashes to language barriers and the best places for a bite, the Geelong Advertiser has compiled a list of recommendations for locals entering enemy territory.

MIND YOUR LANGUAGE

South Australians relish the chance to say “heaps good”. Cats fans will hear it a lot if the Crows take the lead.

References to South Australia’s capital as “Radelaide” are also a common occurrence, which are bound to get on the nerves of Geelong diehards.

CULTURAL CLASHES

Crows fans have been mocked on Port Adelaide’s banner for sipping chardonnay and eating apricot slices. Many are said to enjoy the finer — elitist — things in life.

Adelaide locals are known to ridicule Melbourne’s lattesipping culture. Geelong residents will likely also be roped into this generalisation.

FOOD FURY

Cats fans will have to drink Coopers: it’s the only beer in town. Those looking to bend the elbow should be mindful they’ll be short-changed if they order a schooner. The quantity is only 285ml in South Australia.

Frog cakes, kitchener buns and double-cut salad rolls are red-hot favourites in Adelaide.

STEER CLEAR, OR NOT

There’s only one long, eventful street in Adelaide’s CBD. Hindley St — described as the sleazy end — merges into Rundle St, which is described as upper class. You have to pass through Rundle Mall to get to either one.
