Odds on for film success
ONE of Australia’s most recognisable fitness trainers will visit Geelong tomorrow for two special workout sessions.
Steve “Commando” Willis, best-known for his time as a trainer on The Biggest Loser, will host onehour classes at Geelong Boxing & Obstacle Training at 8am and 10am.
The 41-year-old not only hopes to provide participants with a fun, unique experience, but to inspire meaningful long-term change.
“I’m really in the game of challenging people and the way in which they approach life, their philosophies, their intentions A STRANGE toxic environment, a pair of clean-up workers and potentially the wasteland’s sole survivor.
That is the premise of Back to Back Theatre’s new film Oddlands (right), which will have its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival next month.
The 30-minute short is among a number of projects the Geelong production company has on the go.
A portrait exhibition of the company’s actors and artistic director will be shown at the Frankston Arts Centre from October 18.
Back to Back Theatre will also take its show Lady Eats Apple to England next June for the London International Festival of Theatre. behind the reasons why they do things, so I’m looking forward to having some discussion and some Q & A around that,” he said.
“I’m not just the kind of guy that you saw on the TV show with his arms crossed and sunnies on barking orders. I’m seriously invested in hearing people’s stories because ... that’s what it means to be a trainer, to be compassionate and empathetic.”
The father of four lives in Sydney with his fellow personal trainer partner Michelle Bridges and their son Axel, but agreed to do the guest training session because
Oddlands, written and directed by Bruce Gladwin, has had funding support from the Anthony Costa Foundation and City of Greater Geelong. he shares similar values and training styles with the South Geelong gym, which has trained a number of competitors featured on Australian Ninja Warrior.
“Anywhere that is about helping people be the best they can be, I’m willing to jump in and help raise the profile of what it is they are doing in their local area and community,” Willis said.
The experience, costing $150, includes the training session, a copy of Willis’ latest book and a meet and greet.
