MEET OUR MINI MARTIN

- – SHANE FOWLES

GUS Montgomery, pictured, is living the dream.

His Tigers are into the big dance and his favourite player has made off with the prestigious Brownlow Medal.

Richmond fans have never been in this historic position before in grand final week.

However, at just five years old, Gus isn’t concerned with the past and is focused solely on the present. For the past five days he has been dressed in his Tiger colours.

“He has been in the same clothes since Thursday,” his mother Jackie Montgomery said.

Drawn by the high marks and multiple goals, Jack Riewoldt used to be Gus’ favourite player.

But there’s only one of his Tigers jumpers that Gus now reaches for — the one with the No.4 displayed on the back.

It means other Auskick kids in Ocean Grove have to deal with Gus’ “don’t argue” fend off when they get too close. At Footy Colours Day on Friday, he stole the show with an array of sleeve, neck and leg tattoos and Martin’s layered shaved hairstyle.

The clothes, and the tattoos, stayed on Saturday when his family watched the preliminary final at home.

Mrs Montgomery said they were now desperate for grand final tickets.

“He goes to the footy nearly every week in Melbourne,” she said. “He loves it, he knows all the players.”
