Costly coastal buys

- TESSA HAYWARD

TWO Bellarine Peninsula properties have joined the $5 million club, recent sale price data has revealed.

The landmark Queenscliff property Lathamstowe, at 44 Gellibrand St, sold earlier this year and the sale price has now been revealed as $5.3 million, according to CoreLogic.

Data also shows a stunning Curlewis property, at 60 Avila Rd, sold a couple of months ago and the sale price has been revealed as $5.6 million.

Both of these properties had price expectations of about $6 million.

Fletchers, Queenscliff agent James Gladman sold Lathamstowe but could not divulge any more details.

The 1640sq m property was passed in at auction for $5.4 million in January before selling in February.

There are approved reno- vation plans for the 1883 masterpiece but it is not known what the buyers’ plans are for the sprawling property with captivating views.

Mr Gladman said there was a lot of current interest in higher-end properties.

“There’s never really a lot of high-end properties available so when something pretty special comes up there are people out there looking for that sort of thing,” he said.

“They are a rarity in the market place and people are still prepared to pay good prices for top quality homes.”

RT Edgar, Point Lonsdale agent Felix Hakins sold 60 Avila Rd to Melbourne buyers recently and it has slotted in as the second most expensive sale in the Geelong region behind the $6 million sale of 18 Crows Nest Place, Queenscliff last year. Mr Hakins said the buyers were sold on the region as well as the beautiful waterfront property.
