Cambage to shine in Arena showdown

- RYAN REYNOLDS

AUSTRALIAN basketball star Liz Cambage is set to ignite the Arena when the Melbourne Boomers hit Geelong on Friday night.

The Boomers will take on Bendigo in the WNBL blockbuster with Cambage the headline act.

But the talent runs much deeper with four Australian Opals, including Jenna O’Hea, and a number of American imports all set to take to the floor.

The Boomers last turned out in Geelong in January, losing to Adelaide in front of a good-sized crowd.

Coach Gus Molloy was expecting another big challenge against the Spirit, which start- ed the season with a loss. “Last season proved to be a tough game when we played in Geelong and I fully expect the same again when we meet Bendigo this Friday,” Molloy said.

“We look like we will be at full strength and I’m sure Liz will be starting to find her legs after playing her first games in a year last weekend.

“After splitting our opening weekend we need to make sure we bring our very best to the Geelong Arena and come away with a win. It’s a great venue and I know we’ll have plenty of passionate Boomers fans in the crowd cheering us on.”

Boomers assistant general manager Lauren Jackson said the club was committed to growing the game in Victoria. “We enjoyed bringing the WNBL to Geelong last season and can’t wait to take on Bendigo this Friday, we are hoping to see a full stadium, especially with Liz Cambage out on court,” Jackson said.

“I’m really excited to see the Boomers girls in action again in Geelong, it’s such a great sporting community.”
