Watts does rounds at Cattery

Those moves include working a deal for Gold Coast Sun Gary Ablett as well as Steven Motlop and Daniel Menzel’s potential free agent switches.

Connors said the trip to Kardinia Park had been fruitful for the 26-year-old.

“It was a meet and greet and a chance for Jack to see the facilities and meet some of the coaches for the first time,” Connors said.

“It is early days. They’ve got a lot of things they’re dealing with at the moment. They’ve got Motlop potentially leaving and (they’ll be wondering) what pick they get for him. They’ve got to weigh up a few options on their end as well.”

Watts was put on the trade table by Dees coach Simon Goodwin last week, a move that shocked the former No.1 draft pick.

He attended the club’s best and fairest on Monday night and was given a warm reception by the Dees faithful.

Several clubs are chasing his signature but Geelong and Port Adelaide are believed to be leading the race.

There has also been some interest from Sydney.

Connors said he would talk to Melbourne footy boss Josh Mahoney about Watts’ contract and whether the club would pay part of his salary next season.

That could be a determining factor for the Cats, who are carefully managing salaries.

Connors was hopeful Watts would pick which club he’d like to play for next year by the end of the week. “He’s just got his head around the fact that it’s best for him to leave,” Connors told SEN.

“There’s no good being at an organisation if they don’t want you. I think he has accepted that now.

“It comes pretty quickly, the trade period, and his whole life might just turn upside down, but that’s football and the industry we’re in at the moment.”
